Staff Structure
Bushland Management Services (BMS) is comprised of five core, office based staff and approximately 22 full time equivalent field staff. Our Area Coordinators are responsible for coordination of projects and ensuring positive outcomes. Field staff work in teams, with each team under the direction of a Supervisor. Typical bush regeneration teams are comprised of a Site Supervisor, an Assistant Supervisor and Regenerators – including qualified and trainee regenerators. New recruits serve a trainee period which includes a series of appraisals by Supervisors.
Diana Picone is the Manager of BMS. She has over 10 years of bushland management
experience, extensive experience in planning management of bushland reserves in the Sydney region and organising educational programmes for community groups. The role of the Manager is to conduct the administration required for the provision of services and staff management.
Pat Thomas is the Area Coordinator for southern Sydney and eastern suburbs area. She has over 20 years experience in bush regeneration working in a range of vegetation communities and was a trainer during the time the National Trust provided the Introduction to Bushland Management course. Pat is also qualified in horticulture. Her particular expertise includes native plant identification and propagation.
Elisabeth Dark is Area Coordinator for northern Sydney and Central Coast areas. Her career in bush regeneration began in 1997. She has experience in restoration work in a range of ecological communities of the Sydney area. Related expertise includes co-founding of a community native nursery and study of Australian avifauna. In addition, Elisabeth has a background in community education for environmental issues and sustainable living practices.
Paul Angel is the Area Coordinator for the western Sydney and Blue Mountains areas. He has a background in sustainable forestry and specialised in forest health. He became involved in bushland regeneration in 1994 and has experience in managing a range of vegetation types including rainforest, wet and dry sclerophyll forest as well as coastal heathland and wetland communities throughout NSW and Tasmania. Paul supervised regeneration teams across the Sydney region for three years before taking on the tasks of Area Coordinator.
Sharon Johnson is our Administration Coordinator. She has over 10 years experience in Project Administration in the IT industry and also 10 years experience in the horticultural industry. Sharon manages all aspects of contract administration and assists the Area Coordinators with cost control and reporting.
