Workshops

Masonry Cleaning in Conjunction with the NSW Heritage Council’s Technical Advisory Group

Lime Day in Conjunction with the NSW Heritage Council’s Technical Advisory Group

I’ll get you those papers asap!!

A Home Owners Course is planned to detail why heritage in our suburbs is important and how it can be maintained via practical conservation during renovation.

More specifically the Workshop will investigate the;

  • common causes of damp
  • stone and brick decay and repair
  • repair of windows and doors,
  • roofs and
  • paint finishes.

Workshop attendees will also be encouraged to bring photographs of their specific renovation challenges for the workshop leaders to give advice on how to address specific issues.

Background

The renovation of homes in older Sydney suburbs to increase and maintain the value of the family home has become a significant part of our daily lives and a major industry.

Unfortunately, there is a chronic lack of knowledge in the general community and skills in the building industry in relation to the practical conservation of our suburban heritage and therefore many renovations are not doing older homes justice.

There are approval processes in place to regulate what is seen as inappropriate alterations, additions and demolitions but there are not equivalent concerns about the manner in which buildings are conserved and what inappropriate repair may do to the physical fabric of places.
