The National Trust (NSW),
supported by the NSW Architects Registration Board and radio partner
ABC
Local Radio, invites Australians to pick up their cameras and
reflect on our built environment and sense of place.
Enter
the national “I love this place …” photographic competition and you
could win $2,000 cash or $1,500 worth of photographic equipment from
our camera sponsor Georges.
Send us a digital image you’ve
taken of a built environment anywhere in Australia
that has a special place in your heart.
It could be a
tumbledown beach shack, the broken majesty of a disused industrial
site, an old-time Greek café, or a gallery. It might be your brand
new home, a room which is your sanctuary, a street full of memories,
a remote homestead, or a historic place with a compelling story. It
could be a tiny suburban rest park or spectacular botanic garden, a
seedy back lane, a cooling ocean pool, or a skate park.
The
possibilities are endless; just make sure it is a space with an
element of architecture or design. Include people if you wish, to
add a human dimension.
You’ll need to submit up to 100 words
with your photo completing the sentence “I love this place
because…”, and do an online questionnaire – we want to know why
people love certain places, and how this relates to sustainability.
Winners and shortlisted entries will be exhibited at Customs
House, Circular Quay, Sydney,
on World Architecture Day, 6 October
2008.
The competition opens
Monday 30
June 2008. Entries
close midnight
Sunday 24 August
2008, with
winners announced in early October.
Go to www.nsw.nationaltrust.org.au
to enter, or see the link on your ABC
Local Radio website, and show us why you love the places you
do.

“I love this place
because nana and pop lived here, and the times we all had at the
beach are memories I will have forever. I love this place because
it’s daggy funky retro chic, and it’s modest, not loud and large and
energy hungry like the mansions people seem to need
today. I love this place
because… it’s like an old friend, and reminds me of what’s important
in this life.”

“I love this place
because it’s magical, like a storybook. The kids jumped into the
fountain and splashed around. It reminds me of youth, hope, and all
the possibilities that lie ahead.” |
