Master the do’s and don’ts of successful writing for publication amid the inspirational surrounds of the National Trust heritage property Everglades – a venue sure to get the creative juices flowing. Presented by Blue Mountains resident, renowned international journalist, author and pioneer founder of the nationally acclaimed So You Want to be a Writer?© correspondence writing course, Ann Beveridge, the workshop is designed for beginning, emerging and developing writers. Mitchell Library Centenary at the State Library of New South Wales This special tour for National Trust members and friends is organised in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Mitchell Library. Meet in the Mitchell Foyer before we move into the beautiful Members Room for an informative talk given by Paul Brunton, Senior Curator, Mitchell Library, and curator of the State Library of NSW centenary exhibition: ONE Hundred. This marvellous exhibition brings the Mitchell collection OUT of the Vaults, profiling 100 objects in 100 days. Drawing from the riches of the Mitchell Library's internationally renowned collection, the exhibition offers an unrivalled perspective on Australian history, culture and life. Sunday 13 June, 1.00pm - 4.00pm Miss Porter’s house was the home of Herbert Porter, merchant, his wife Florence and their daughters’ Ella and Hazel. The Porter’s left their home to the National Trust as a House Museum, with its collection of literally thousands of household items from almost 90 years of domestic life. The collection is that of an ordinary family, who lived and worked in the commercial end of old Newcastle. Cost: Free to members, adults $7, child $5, under 5 free, concession $5. Sunday 20 June, 1.00pm 4.30pm An easy afternoon guided walk through the Peninsula area of Windsor perched above the flood-prone farmlands in the bend of South Creek, where some of the earliest 30 acre land grants were made in 1794. Included in the walk and house visits are the North Street Cottages dating from 1820 to 1860 (restored by the National Trust under its Small Houses scheme in the 1970s, then passed to private owners), and Windsor’s Greenway-designed Court House, built for Governor Macquarie in 1820. If time permits we will venture on to the adjacent farmlands to examine the drainage system necessitated by frequent flooding and view the cluster of Tebbutt family (farmers and astronomer) buildings on their flood-free knoll (Georgian house with Victorian wing, two observatories, farm labourer’s cottage and other outbuildings).
