Pymble Day - Looking at Architecture with the National Trust Womens Committee

Tuesday 9 March, 10.30am - 12.30pm or 1pm - 3pm

In 1821 Robert Pymble, silk weaver, brought his family to the colony on the promise of a land grant. Selecting 600 acres on the hills of the upper North Shore, he cut and sold the tall native timber, then cultivated the land – growing the first orange orchards. When the railway came in the 1890s, well-to-do people from crowded Sydney town were able to move their families to the high land where there was space to build gracious houses in the then fashionable Queen Anne Federation style. Nowadays Pymble is a much sought-after suburb where glorious gardens grow on the fertile soils that once supported great stands of eucalypt and turpentine. Bookings: Ticket Application Sheet
