Assessment Criteria
All entries must demonstrate how they meet the following criteria:
Best practice: (50%)
Please explain how your project demonstrates best practices through aspects such as;
research, planning, documentation, approach to the project, management of the project, methodologies demonstrated, value for money, adherence to the Burra Charter and other professional standards, contribution to understanding and learning about heritage.
Please also respond to the following:
- Was conservation an integral component of this development,
- Does the project show environmental sustainability, through regeneration, adaptive reuse or conservation of significant items,
- Did this project make any significant social and/or economic contributions across different regions/communities?
Innovation: (10%)
- What was innovative about the project,
- How did it advance knowledge of heritage practice and understanding of heritage issues,
- How will/was this communicated/expressed?
Development of skills: (10%)
- How did the project develop skills, knowledge and understanding in the participants, clients, others involved in the project?
Community involvement: (10%)
- What was the level of community involvement/engagement in this project,
- How was the project promoted to the community and to the heritage industry,
- How does it enhance community identity and diverse social and cultural values,
- Did your project increase, educate or make the community aware of the importance of environmental sustainability?
Partnerships: (10%)
- What partnerships were involved,
- Please estimate how many partnerships were involved with this project,
- What were the benefits of this/these partnership/s, and,
- Did any new employment opportunities arise from this project?
Legacy: (10%)
- What will be the legacy of this project?

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the large number of entries and the scope of submissions from around NSW, it is not possible for judges to conduct personal inspections of properties or buildings entered in the Heritage Awards. Judging relies on your written and photographic evidence, so please ensure that your submission and photographs adequately represent the work.
