LORD LODGE AT CAULFIELD

Lord Lodge is located ten minutes south of the beautiful city of Melbourne. Having won acclaim for its hospitality and service the property is close to all public transport, and it provides a perfect base from which to enjoy the many activities offered by our vibrant city.

Situated in a peaceful setting and surrounded by 100-year-old trees, it is hard to imagine that the city is such a short distance away.

After a 12-month period of extensive refurbishment, the property was opened to the public as a bed and breakfast in February 1994. An excellent example of early Victorian architecture, Lord Lodge retains all of the features of that elegant era, including wide arched halls, baltic pine floorboards, marble fireplaces and soaring 16 foot ceilings with elaborate hand painted cornices.

Built in 1880 as a racing complex, the house and associated barn were listed on the Australian National Estate Register in 1996. The 60 foot turret in the centre of the house was erected so that the trainer could watch his horses work. Today, the view from the turret is appreciated by many guests who use the room to read or to watch a glorious Victorian sunset.

Breakfast at Lord Lodge has been described as "a breakfast to die" for and is served in the superb dining room, which overlooks the horse day yards. It is an indulgent affair which includes:

  • fruit juice
  • fresh fruit in season
  • locally baked croissants
  • cereals
  • scrambled eggs and smoked salmon
  • bacon and eggs

There are three bedrooms available for guests, they are all large and spacious with distinctive character. The king and queen rooms have ensuite facilities and the double or twin has its own private bathroom.

Lord Lodge appeals to a broad cross-section of guests business people looking for something a little different, those with a historical interest and those simply seeking leisure have all become our regular visitors, enjoying Lord Lodge's ambience and hospitality. For those with a passion for racing, the property forms part of a large working racing stable.

Lord Lodge was selected to be a member of the prestigious Australia & New Zealand’s Finest B&Bs and Rural Retreats in 1995, and was the winner of the prestigious Award for Excellence in 1997 and 1998. The property is rated 4-star, and you are assured of a warm and friendly greeting. We look forward to welcoming you.
