This unique and beautiful National Trust listed Chalet Style building, set on Three Blocks of land, with its white Katoomba Sandstone walls, Slate roof, Paneled ceilings and three Marble Fireplaces, consists of a spacious Four Bedroom Postmaster’s residence and adjoining Grand Postal Chamber with all the original cedar fittings.

It was opened with great fanfare, before a large crowd on 2 April 1897, by the Postmaster-General of New South Wales, Joseph Cook (later Prime Minister of Australia), who was presented with a golden key by Schoolmaster H. G. Rienits.

The sound of fife and drum heralded the occasion, with a boys’ band heading the procession of school children to the front of the new building with its elegant ‘Post and Telegraph Office’-etched semicircular window.

The original post office had been serviced by Cobb & Co six days a week before the coming of the railway in 1868.

In 1997 the village celebrated the Centenary of the new Post Office building, with a re-enactment of the 1897 opening by the last (1994) Postmistress, Doris Lindsay.

The building remains an aesthetic, architectural and historical landmark in the heritage listed village of Mount Victoria.

The postal chamber has been used for the last ten years as an artists’ gallery and then an antique shop. Recently vacated, it can be rented for extra income or incorporated with the residence to add an extra spacious and gracious lounge area.

This is a rare opportunity to acquire such a magnificent piece of our history just 1¾ hours from the Sydney CBD. Owners transferred.
