NATIONAL TRUST ANNOUNCES SEVEN NEW NATIONAL LIVING TREASURES

 


The National Trust of Australia (NSW) is delighted to announce the seven new National Living Treasures.  The Australian public has voted and chosen seven exceptional Australians with substantial and enduring accomplishments in their field.

The National Trust of Australia (NSW) congratulates and celebrates these seven new National Living Treasures and acknowledges that they are as diverse as Australia itself.


The seven new National Living Treasures in alphabetical order are:-

Sir Jack Brabham Sir Jack Brabham, OBE triple world champion Formula One driver, contested 126 Grand Prix in his 15 year career. In 1966 he was named Australian of the Year and became the only driver in the world to win the Formula One world championship driving a car of his own design and construction.

Dr Harry Butler, CBE Dr Harry Butler, CBEnaturalist and conservationist, played a major role in environmental conservation and restoration in Australia.  In 1979 he was named Australian of the Year and in 1980 he was honored for his work and  appointed a Commanding Officer of the Order of the British Empire.

Professor Ian Frazer Professor Ian Frazer, creator of the cervical cancer vaccine, is president of the Cancer Council Australia and advises the World Health organisation and the Bill and Melissa Gates Foundation on papillomavirus vaccines.  In 2006 he was named Australian of the Year.
