Lawrence Daws’ works are celebrated in this important touring exhibition, confirming his place as an iconic artist. Lawrence Daws (b1927 Adelaide) has enjoyed a long and successful career as a painter and over the years has developed a passion for symbolism and his work is full of his own personal lexicon of images. The S.H. Ervin Gallery has a history of presenting exhibitions from private collectors to reveal the taste and vision of individuals, and this exhibition continues this tradition. Dr Peter Elliott AO has been acquiring art for decades and has work by many important Australian artists including Gruner, Dobell, Drysdale, Boyd, Williams, Smart, Friend, Whiteley, John Olsen, William Robinson, Rover Thomas, Emily Kngwarreye, Gloria Petyarre, George Tjungurrayi , Henry Mulholland, Savanadry Vongpoothorn, Peter Sharp, Kylie Stillman, John R. Walker & James Rogers.

PORTIA GEACH Memorial Award
23 SEPTEMBER- 6 NOVEMBER

The annual award exhibition for portraiture by contemporary Australian women artists. The award, which was first given in 1965 in memory of the artist Portia Geach, displays selected entries from artists across the nation representing diversity in contemporary portraiture. The Award is recognised as one of the most important celebrations of the talents and creativity of Australian female portrait painters and has played a major role in developing the profile of the nation’s women artists.

S.H. Ervin Gallery ELEMENTAL RECKONING : The art of Tim Storrier
11 NOVEMBER – 18 DECEMBER

Tim Storrier is one of Australia’s leading artists and this is the first major survey of his work. The exhibition comprises paintings, graphics and photography from public galleries & private collections. Tim Storrier has created an astonishing range of imagery steeped in his earliest memories of life on the land. The four elements - earth, air, fire and water – provide the framework for the artist’s singular vision of the Australian experience.
