Gallery closure
29 June- 25 September
Many people are not aware that the National Trust S.H. Ervin Gallery has a collection of over 400 artworks. Comprising works received from the S.H. Ervin Bequest, the Alan Renshaw Bequest and donations, the collection includes important Australian artists such as Conrad Martens, Margaret Preston, Justin O’Brien and Jeffrey Smart. From the end of June 2009 the S.H. Ervin Gallery will close for three months for a period of change and refurbishement, and important work on its collection. The Galley was fortunate to receive funding from Arts NSW to assist with refurbishing its collection store and will take the opportunity to also make some long overdue improvements to its exhibition space. The closure will allow staff time to document and survey the collection which will enable it to be more easily utilised for exhibitions, by researchers, online and by other institutions.
