An Evening with Donald Friend

An Evening with Donald Friend

with Terence Clarke as Donald Friend
Thursday 21 September, 6pm

Donald Friend was not only an exceptional and gifted artist, but was also a fine writer. When he died in 1989, he left behind over 40 volumes of his Diary.  Daily notations, witty antidotes, adventurous travel stories and at least 100 drawings, evolved into what that could possibly be his greatest achievement.

On Thursday 21 September, at S.H. Ervin Gallery, a special reading of selections from the Diaries has been organised by esteemed arts curator & publisher, Lou Klepac.  Terence Clarke, well-known theatre director & composer was part of Friend’s inner circle and knew him well for many years. Clarke reads exciting & telling incidents of Donald Friend’s amazing life, as specially selected by Klepac.

This special reading precedes the forthcoming survey exhibition, Donald Friend, A Charmed Life, at the National Library of Australia, Canberra, in November, 2006.  The NLA embarked on a major publishing project to realise Friend’s wish that the diaries be edited and published.  Volume four is to be released this year.

An Evening with Donald Friend captures the essence of the man and artist and relates some of the most exciting and telling incidents of Friend’s amazing life. Discover Friend the artist and Friend the writer.
