This art making workshop is designed for children looking at the surrounds of Observatory Hill, Sydney Harbour and the Rocks. Children will participate in a series of sensory exercises, drawings, textural rubbings (frottage) and orienteering experiences to create their own unique map of the area. These will be collected together and then included in a mixed media artwork. Stories about the historical significance of the site will be presented as children begin to explore the natural and built environment interacting to create a final group collage project.

The Photograph as a Witness (Photography workshop)

Suitable for children aged 8 – 17 years old
Cost $ 35 including entry into the gallery & materials - bookings essential *

Photography may be used to create snapshots of a particular time and place. This photography workshop will coincide with the Witness to War: official art and photography exhibition hosted at the S.H. Ervin Gallery. The workshop will start with a tour of the exhibition which will be the inspiration for photographs taken in the immediate area. Children will be provided with tuition and a disposable camera while walking around the historic rocks site. On the walking tour we will discover sites of architectural significance past and present. Developing skills in picture composition and experimenting with different perspectives, this workshop is perfect for the novice photographer or explorer at heart.
