"The Rectory" Airlie Road, Pullenvale (formerly the Rectory of St Andrews Anglican Church, South Brisbane, Qld) For Sale -offers above $1,900,000 |
|
The Rectory was designed in March 1887 by the Colonial Architect J.H. Buckeridge, Diocesan Architect of Brisbane who came to Australia highly recommended by the Archbishop of Canterbury. It is believed to be the only surviving example of his domestic work
It was moved to Pullenvale in 2002. Pullenvale is a semi-rural acreage suburb only 15kms from Brisbane and is about 7 minutes drive to either Kenmore or Bellbowrie for excellent shopping and about 20 minutes to Indooroopilly Shoppingtown. The Pullenvale school is just around the corner and buses at the end of the street go to almost every private school in Brisbane or Ipswich. The land is 2.5 acres of beautifully treed, extremely private tranquility with a magnificent variety of birds and regular visits from wallabies. The move and renovation was architecturally supervised as was the construction of 2 sympathetic buildings forming 3 sides of a 13 metre salt water swimming pool. The total area under roof is now 67 squares. The main feature of this grand home is a suite of 3 magnificent formal rooms joined by original bi-fold doors creating an entertaining area 50 feet long. As St Andrews pre-dates St John’s Cathedral, it is not surprising that Edward, Prince of Wales (later King Edward VIII), is said to have been entertained in the rectory during his 1920 Australian Royal Visit. There are wide verandahs on 3 sides and a wonderfully handy entertainment deck off the 26 foot long kitchen. The master bedroom has an ensuite and a dressing room. Other features are:-2 other generous bedrooms in main house (former boxroom now ensuite to second bedroom) Reverse cycle ducted air-conditioning Large games room (or more bedrooms) Self-contained staff quarters/granny flat/teenager’s retreat etc Kitchen/meals area with a walk-in pantry, a fully integrated dishwasher Beautiful oiled cedar front door with a leadlight cross of St Andrew above it leads to an 8 foot wide central entrance hall 8 sets of full length walk-through sash windows allow access to the verandahs from most of the rooms Total of 4 bathrooms Huge garage with covered steps to the verandah comfortably holds 6 cars (and possibly 7 or 8 could be stored) or part could easily be used as a media room/home theatre with stairs leading down from the dining room Large lockable & fully sealed storage room with shelving at both ends Other extensive storage areas surround the garage including a well-lit workbench Remote controlled tilt-a-doors on garage (3 bays wide) Cavernous ceiling-space Town water (also a bore and tank provide limitless free water for the grounds) Large, flat, grassed area in front of house would provide an ideal site for a tennis court 200 metre long exposed-aggregate concrete drive runs from the street and loops all buildings (double width at front of house) providing easy access Broadband connection to house and games room, many phone points
