About Built by William Hibburd in 1845, William Hibburd (1806-1889) named this Inn after his favourite horse. In 1851, a newspaper article notes that a constable reminded him that licensed premises must display name signs. Pointing to his roan horse tethered near the Inn, Hibburd replied, "That's my sign". Constructed mainly of hand-made bricks, the Inn originally stood on 7 acres 1 rod 28 perches of Freehold land, centrally located at the junction of the Bombala, Bega and Eden roads. Roan Horse Inn retained it's licence up until the late 1890's and always had a reputation for excellent accommodation and hospitality, being well known as 'the traveller's home'. The Roan Horse Inn is one of the few Inns to survive the goldrush era. It is now a Bed & Breakfast, and has been classified by the National Trust. 3 double rooms each with ensuite including shower/spa, shower or claw foot bath. Main bedroom has private balcony and own dining room with open fire, French antique furniture, spa bath, slow combustion fire, TV and sound system. Location Halfway between Sydney and Melbourne, the Roan Horse Inn is close to some of the finest beaches on the Sapphire Coast. It is located within minutes of Pambula Beach, Merimbula Golf Course, Merimbula Airport, restaurants and shopping, Eden and Two Fold Bay. Mt. Kosciusko and Canberra are an easy drive away (approximately 2 to 3 hours). Deep sea fishing, whale watching, jazz festivals, golf, fishing and bowls tournaments, wineries, bush walking and surfing are just some of the activities that draw people to the lovely Far South Coast.
