Among the many typical Victorian era features throughout the house are 12' and 14' ceilings with elaborate plasterwork and ornate gilded ceiling roses, cedar picture railings, original 6" New Zealand kauri pine timber floors, antique marble fireplace surrounds and magnificent Australian cedar joinery including panelled solid cedar doors and cedar French doors.

Features more unique to 'Sanquhar' and indicative of the quality of craftsmanship and detail involved in the construction of the house, include original ornate brass window pelmets, hand painted antique light fittings, large cedar curtain rods, brass and cast iron ornate hearth surrounds, brass and porcelain tapestry/painting rods and a cedar, brass and porcelain coat rack with provision for 12 guests.

A majestic wide entrance hall features decorative plaster work and rag rolled paintwork, a beautiful cedar archway and wet run cornice mouldings.

The solid sandstock brick house has 4 double bedrooms, 3 with restored cedar French doors leading onto the surrounding bullnose verandahs.  There are original working fireplaces in each bedroom, 2 with marble surrounds, 2 with cedar surrounds.

Formal lounge and dining area with truly exquisite ceiling decoration and rag rolled paintwork with hand painted stencil detail.

The study/library with underfloor cellar is accessed from the lounge area through 2 magnificent panelled cedar refectory doors.

Restoration work undertaken over the past decade culminated in a wonderful and cleverly designed extension to the original house incorporating an enormous bright and airy kitchen/family/dining area with 14' ceilings, 6" wide New Zealand kauri pine timber floors and large multi paned cedar windows cleverly positioned to take full advantage of expansive garden, town and rural views.  Cedar French doors open from this room onto a 5.5m x 5.5m covered verandah/BBQ area which provides a terrific entertaining space for all seasons.  A unique feature of the cedar kitchen is the original (and still working) cast iron Australia Range fuel stove made by D SIM MAKER, Morpeth.
