History Original grant dates from 1799 – witnessed by Matthew Flinders and signed by Governor Hunter. Georgian two storey structure built in 1840s for John Gordon Town (called ‘Pleasant View’) and Victorian single storey structure (called ‘Sunnyside’) was built in 1859 as a wedding gift for Town’s daughter Elizabeth and her husband George Matcham Pitt, the surveyor. Town owned the ‘Woolpack Inn’. A large entry foyer joins the two buildings today. At its peak in 1888 the property was 1,000 acres. The property remained in the Pitt family until 1945 when it was sold to developers who planned to turn it into a country club. The developers ran into financial problems and the property was sold again in 1948 to Sydney solicitor, Cec O’Dea with the remaining 312 acres. O’Dea established the Nepean Friesian Stud in 1950. After his death the remaining 42 acres were sold off as housing blocks and the house with its 1.3 acre curtilage was purchased by the Chalmers family in 1988. We bought it in May 2002.
