The gardens contain many mature trees including 160 year old olive and elm trees planted by the original owners and a fruit orchard. Much of the garden had been replanted with hardy and low maintenance mixed borders, large vegetable garden, parterre herb garden, formal rose garden and silver birch grove. The history Tarraganda was originally owned by Dr George Imlay, one of the pioneering Imlay brothers, who had extensive operations in Bega, Pambula and Eden breeding cattle and horses as well as whaling. The present house was probably built by his brother Peter, shortly after George’s death in 1846. Henry Wren, retired manager of nearby Kameruka Estate purchased Tarraganda in 1883 and his family continued to live here until the mid-fifties. The Bega Valley is a wonderful area to experience a quality & special lifestyle. Beautiful beaches and national Parks are plentiful and largely deserted. Being located halfway between Sydney and Melbourne with direct flights to each, and thee hours by car from Canberra, make it far enough away, but convenient for everywhere. It is a wonderful sanctuary to come home to. Contact: Ian Goater 0428 598 465
