Flinders Rangers, Lake Eyre and the Cooper

24 May – 9 June 2010

Richard Quilty’s memorable tour ranges from the green pastures of the Clare Valley to the stone gibber plains around Cooper Creek, reminiscent of the ill-fated journey of Bourke and Wills in 1860 – 1861. This tour by coach from Sydney staying at Broken Hill for two nights, exploring the Flinders Range and Clare Valley. We continue on to the outback along the Oodnadatta and Strzeleki tracks, first visiting the Wadlata Outback Centre and the Roxby Downs copper and uranium mines, Lake Eyre, Cemeron’s Corner, Sturt National Park and the underground opal town of White Cliffs.

Bedourie, Camel Races and Outback Tour

2 – 18 July 2010

Leaving by coach from Sydney we travel via Coonabarabran and St George to spend tow nights at Carnarvon Gorge Wilderness Resort. After Carnarvon we travel to Windorah before staying two nights at Bedourie where a full day at the famous CamelRaces is included. Travelling via the Birdsville Track we then head for the South Australian Outback via Marree to the Flinders Rangers where we spend two nights at Arkaroola Wilderness Resort. Afterwards we drive to Broken Hill, and then back to Sydney via Narromine. Early bookings are highly recommended.

Highlands of Scotland and the Lake District England

2 – 17 September 2010

This tour of Scotland commences in Glasgow. On the Isle of Bute, visit the house of the marquis of Bute. In Glasgow we visit the Burrell collection and examples of Rennie Macinstosh architecture and national Trust properties. Leaving Glasgow we travel to the Isle of Arran. Crossing back to the mainland to Ballachulish, Lochleven and its castle, Glencoe and National Trust visitors centre. On to Inverness via Pitlochry and Killiecrankie. From Inverness we will visit Culloden and Cowdre Castle. Traveling  west by one of the most scenic train journeys to the Kyle of Lochalsh and on to the Isles of Mull and Iona.


Down the west coast to the Arduaine Garden and the Kilmartin House Museum. Before leaving Scotland we hope to stop at Penport the home of Andy Goldsworthy, travelling on to Windermere in the Lakes District. Here we will visit Hilltop, Beatrice Potter’s House and Brentwood House of John Ruskin. Cruise on Lake Coniston and visit Grizedal Forest. Our Farewell dinner will be in Manchester.

Spring in the Central West of new South Wales

12 – 19 September 2010

This Richard Quilty tour is being repeated due to popular demand. The tour is timed to combine spring beauty and yellow canola fields of NSW’s central west. Highlands include Boree Cabonne and Illandra Mansions, Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens, the Japanese Gardens at Cowra, and the exciting new Mayfield Garden at Oberon. Travel by private coach from Sydney with overnight stops in Oberon (2 nights), Millthorpe for 1 night, the Old Vic Guesthouse in Canowindra for 2 nights and Gulgong (2 nights). The route will follow back roads and includes villages such as Tarana, Rockley, Carcoar, Greenthorpe, Yeoval and Byong. Guides with good local knowledge will enhance the tour. Tour of the Southern States of the USA

11 – 21 October 2010

A tour of the cities of Georgia and South Carolina transport you to yesteryear’s days of living. Relish the gracious elegance of Southern living in the rarefied world of plantations, nineteenth century mansions, magnolia gardens and enormous live oak hung with Spanish moss. Visit Atlanta and Charleston’s ‘Museum Mile’ featuring the richest concentration of cultural sites open to visitors. Explore Savannah’s beautiful historic district including its lovely squares, River Street, and City Market, and enjoy the elegant dinner on the verandah of the Metts-McNeal mansion, the home of Dr Jimmy Metts from the book ‘Midnight in the garden of Good and Evil’. Visit plantation homes and historic sites including fort Sumnter, where the first shots of the American Civil War were fired.
